Here’s a video about mental illness and stigma

I really like this video.  I think it is understated and not at all melodramatic.  This is really how it is.

I recently went to an inservice for nurses by nurses and was appalled when the speaker described one of her peers as being “schizophrenic”–she meant this person was full of energy and all over the place.  I had a really hard time staying in the audience.  This is a perfect example of just how ingrained the stigma is.  Mental illness is not funny.  Being mentally ill is not fun.  Using mental illness to make a joke is poor taste.  When will we get the message?
